Overview
Client:  College of DuPage Natural Areas

Project Type:  Outdoor Wayfinding Signage System

My Role: Graphic Designer

Team:  4 person team of designers

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Problem
Areas and paths  are poorly marked and branded causing most students and visitors to be unaware of their existence.
One of the primary objectives of the natural areas was not being met, to offer education about native wildlife and plant life.
Solution
Create a recognizable visual signage system and distinguishable brand that is easy to understand and informative for path-goers.
Increase student knowledge and usage of Natural Areas by identifying trail heads clearly and creating visual maps for easy reference.
Design Process
We were tasked with creating a signage system for the College of DuPage Natural Areas, a collection of three locations on the College of DuPage campus focused on preserving native plantlife and wildlife. These areas collectively cover 32 acres. The first phase of the project was visiting them in-person and going on a hike. We collected data on how the areas are used and what their history was. We started with creating an identifiable visual system and brand to tie it all together, then created templates for each type of sign. Once the templates were signed off on we plugged in the content related to each location and prepared them for printing.
